Welcome to Fruit of May and thank you for visiting my digital lifestyle publication. It’s about everything I love, including natural hair, hip-hop music, entrepreneurship and so much more.
Who am I!? My name is Mayah Simone. I am from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. I currently live in the Raleigh/Durham area. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Meredith College and a Master of Science degree in Multimedia Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
I launched this site to create projects I’m passionate about, to share my truths, to write about my experiences and to connect with others just like me. I write to inspire and empower my readers to live passionately, heal unconditionally and grow spiritually.
I opened up my space for other writers to share their stories too. Let’s learn more about them.
Digital Content Producers
Lekisha resides in North Carolina. She is a firm believer in God and a huge fan of old-school RnB and snacks. She enjoys hearing about real-life love stories and adores the simpler things in life.
On an ordinary day, she can be found working hard toward her goals or being one of the biggest introverts there is. Writing is her passion and a great outlet for being expressive. She enjoys a dope read and pens novels under the pseudonym L. L. Robinson.
She is all about positivity and recognizing the most valuable things in life. She encourages everyone to take the necessary steps to become the best version of themselves.
Doreen Opinya, also known as sin, is from Sanford, North Carolina. She’s an English major and a Senior, at North Carolina A&T State University.
Doreen has always been a leader, activist, and an outspoken woman. This young writer is heavily involved with advocacy groups on campus, and if there isn’t a group, she’s known to create spaces. Her passion includes reading about and analyzing identity politics.
Tamarea is a model in every sense of the word. She was born in Newark, New Jersey but grew up in the dirty south; Durham, North Carolina is the place she calls home. Tamarea’s natural desire to understand others led her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from UNC Charlotte. She also became a certified translator, an interpreter, a model, wife, and mother during her time in the Queen City.
Her many passions include promoting mental health awareness in the black community, advocating for women’s rights, and immigrant rights.
